Video Poker to be banned in Orland Park
Orland Park is an area of Illinois and members of the board have stated they will most likely be banning video poker in their area. On Monday village board members stated they would be voting to ban the games in the village. Mayor Daniel McLaughlin commented at this past Monday’s board meeting about how vocal he has been about being against video poker. He also stated that the board has not taken a vote to ban it but at some point they will be taking a vote to that effect.
State lawmakers approved video poker machines in bars, restaurants and other venues in Illinois to help fund the capital road program, back in the spring. With the approval the state gave counties and other areas the ability to opt out of offering video poker.
A vote in Orland Park was delayed just a few months ago with officials saying they wanted to wait till the Illinois Gaming Board finished writing the rules and regulations for the video poker machines. Wendie Benton, a village resident who is opposed to the game, commented on Monday at the meeting. She stated: “Gambling is not an answer to financial difficulties. There are good ways and not good ways to deal with money problems.”
