Three women were recently accused of burning down the Goodys Café as a way to steal the video poker funds. Chrystal Calvin, Amy Waguespack and Myrtle Brown have been arrested and booked on arson and theft charges after it was believed the women were involved with the fire and theft.
It was after 2 am on the 25th of April that the local fire department arrived on the scene of a structure fire. There were no injuries and $6,000 in damages were found on property. The investigators of the fire seemed to feel the fire had been set intentionally. The three women work the night shift on the night of the fire and witnesses stated the lights went out before the fire started.
After the surveillance footage was reviewed, Calvin was seen on the video setting the fire. She was then questioned and denied involvement. It was later on she confessed to the crime and then told authorities about the two other women involved.
Calvin stated that the women were angry that the owner had threatened to fire them and close down the café. The three women then decided to burn the café down and steal the video poker funds which was just under $4,000. The money would then have been split between the three women. The women have now been fired and await sentencing. The café is still open for business despite the recent fire.
